What’s It Like To Be In a Webinar?

Sep 15th, 200912 Comments

Thanks to our speakers, partners and participants– all of whom have continued to support us and spread the good word about what we do, it seems there has been a rising interest in webinars, not only in Metro Manila, but also in many other key cities all around the Philippines.

Webinars are without a doubt, convenient and easy to get into.  The truth is, there are so many webinars out there– other countries use webinars like it’s an everyday thing, with so many online talks and workshops on all kinds of topics going on at any given time.  And one of the most appealing advantages of webinars is that you can plug in from practically anywhere in the world, as long as you have a good enough PC or laptop, and a stable internet connection.

In our dealings with all kinds of clients, speakers and participants, we have noticed that one of the most common questions asked of us is this:  what’s it like to be in a webinar?

Webinars are a form of web conferencing, and as such, can be used to do live meetings, training or presentations over the internet.

Participants of a webinar sit at his/her own PC or laptop, and connect to other particpants via the internet.  In the case of ProFora Media’s ongoing series of webinars, attendees can access the meeting or online talk by clicking on a link sent out as an email invitation to enter the conference.

Depending on the purpose of the webinar, however, interaction among participants can take many forms.  In the ProFora Media Lightbulb Sessions, for example, a speaker will be conducting an online workshop or talk, and will usually point out information being presented and shared onscreen, as well as allow question & answer portions with attendees and hold polls and surveys.

What can be shared on ProFora Media’s webinars?

  • Whiteboard and Slideshow presentations, such as on PowerPoint or Keynote, while the speaker uses marking tools to highlight or point, all while discussing content.
  • Screen/Desktop/Application Sharing.  Speakers can share pretty much anything on their screen to other participants, even allow desktop control and allow the participant control for demonstration purposes.
  • Live or Streaming Video can be shared or pushed to the audience.
  • Web Tours can also be done to show participants around a particular website.

Participants at ProFora Media’s Lightbulb Sessions usually communicate via VOIP– real-time audio communication through the internet,  USB headsets with microphones allow for best audio and comfort, although speakers and standalone mikes can also work.  Text chat is also usually enabled to take in questions or comments from participants.

Come check out some of our webinars today: we have anything from whole-day webinar series, to full-blown certificate courses.  We here at ProFora Media have a variety of free and paid webinars on a wide variety of subject matters and topics.  Stop by once in a while to check out our event lineup, or come join our page on Facebook or Multiply for the latest updates.

Cheers, all!
